WWE Classics Cards Latest Effort from Topps

There is still no word from Topps on which wrestlers' autographs will appear in the product but preliminary information on its 2011 WWE Classics set is out. A preliminary checklist shows spaces for 16 autographs in the product as well as 16 relic cards featuring match-worn gear.

2011 Topps WWE Classics isn't really a set of 'classic wrestlers', though. It's a mix of current wrestling stars, Divas and a few former stars mixed into a 100-card base set. Ten of those cards are part of a Rock vs Cena subset.

The cards will feature an all-foil design, similar to last year's Platinum issue. There will be gold parallel cards in the mix as well.

Six cards will be in each pack and 24 packs will comprise one full box. They'll cost dealers a little under $32 per box and 2011 WWE Classics will be released in December, according to a Topps promotional sheet.

Among the past stars in the series are Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, Road Warriors, Sgt. Slaughter, Junkyard Dog, Rowdy Roddy Piper and the Undertaker.

2011 Topps WWE Classics cards won't hurt the brand's desire to grow. Right now, WWE shows attract 14 million television viewers in 145 countries each week. Check out the slide show below to get a look at some of the cards in the upcoming series.

WWE Championship Belts

Titan Sports has established several WWE Championship belts throughout the history of the WWF/WWE. The main championship belt we have come to know was actually established on April 29th, 1963.

With the purchase of WCW, they also acquired the WCW heavyweight championship, and both wrestling belts were split up between the two brands, but in December 2001 decided to unify both titles into ‘An Undisputed Champion’. The belt itself has changed designs close to 10 times in the last nine years with another possible change coming in 2011.

The Tag Team Championship was originally introduced in 1971, and re-named the ‘WWF championship’ in 1979 until the mid-1990’s. When WCW was acquired the decision was eventually made to unify both sets of tag team titles and at the 2001 ‘Survivor Series’ both titles re unified. The original titles have gone though a new facelift recently, as the WWE decided to retire the original belts.

The WWE Intercontinental title is another one of the well-known belts that was established in 1979. In November 2001 the decision was made to unify both the Intercontinental and the WCW United States Championship, and to officially retire the U.S. championship. In 2002 the Intercontinental title was retired, but re-activated in May 2003 as a secondary title for Raw.

Another one of the WWE Championship belts that is currently active is the United States Championship. When it was retired in 2001, it was then re-activated as an active title in July 2003. Since its inception in 1975 in the original NWA, there have been 68 different champions, of which Lex Lugar was the longest reigning champion for 523 days.

The WWE Cruiserweight Championship was officially introduced in 1991. There has been 79 different champions over 16 years, and the title was retired officially in 2008.

When Vince McMahon first presented Mankind with the ‘Hard-core title’, we knew there was a change in the air going to happen. The belt was contested under the rules that ‘anything can be used on your opponent, no count-outs or disqualifications can happen, and anyone can interfere in the match to help out.’ One of the best moments in this title’s history was Crash Holly’s 24/7 rule, where the title could be defended anywhere and anytime, and made for some memorable moments in WWE history. The belt was officially retired on August 26, 2002, and during a segment on Raw, Vince McMahon gave the title to Mick Foley, declaring him the permanent holder of the title.

The last in the WWE Championship Belts section is the WWE Women's Championship was created in 1956, and officially retired in 2010 making the new ‘Divas championship’ the only woman’s title in the WWE. There have been 58 recognized champions in the WWE in a 26 year period.

Hot Trish Stratus a Sensation In, Out of Ring

When it comes to WWE Divas, smoking hot Trish Stratus stands out amongst the pack. She has captured the WWE Women’s Championship seven times, the Hardcore Championship once, was crowned Babe of the Year from 2001-2004, and was voted Diva of the Decade by the WWE Universe. It is plain to see why she's one of, if not the most, notable diva of our generation.

Beginning in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, Stratus (real name Stratigias) was always active. She played soccer and field hockey growing up. Eventually, while working as a receptionist inside a local gym, she was approached by the publisher of MuscleMag International to do a test shoot for the magazine. She did appear on the cover of the May 1998 issue and was signed to a two year contract.

While modeling, she caught the attention of the World Wrestling Federation, which was developing its diva division. In November 1999, she agreed to a multi-year contract with the company, who sent her to Sully's Gym where she was trained by Ron Hutchinson.

Changing Stratigias to a more common last name, she made her debut in the then WWF, as a manager. The suddenly hot Trish Stratus appeared on stage to scout superstars. It was during this time that she had her first major in ring alteraction. She had been taunting Bubba Ray Dudley and she finally got put through a table.

Following the break up of TNA, she managed Val Venis for brief period, but he lost the Intercontinental Championship and she bounced. After her managerial skills were not needed, she began a torrid affair with Vince McMahon. Linda McMahon, Vince’s wife, had been placed in an institution after Vince used Smackdown to publicly ask for a divorce. Trish and Vince carried on their affair for a few months, but ultimately, Trish was betrayed by Vince after he sided with his daughter, Stephanie McMahon.

The fued between Trish and Stephanie was the beginning of Trish’s wrestling career. After being humiliated by Trish, Vince, and Stephanie, Trish became a fan favorite when she slapped Vince at Wrestlemania 17. This freed her from his grasp and allowed her to go on with her solo career.

Trish went on to fued with many of the divas on the roster, as well representing, and winning, a Bra and Panties match at Invasion against Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson.

Trish is now back in the WWE as a wrestler and a trainer on Tough Enough. Her five year hiatus has not changed her status as a fan favorite. She's definitely a hit with male fans and collectors. Most notable among the collectors items are the magazine covers she has been on, as well as gear she has worn. There are also posters and t shirts that will give any wrestling fan 100% Stratusfaction.

Her body has been the subject of inaugural WWE bikini contests (where the Trish Status thong became quite a sensation) and countless photo shoots.

She's no youngster anymore, but Stratus' status in the WWE continues to be as one of the most dominating divas in the business.

2011 Topps WWE Set for Release

Wrestling fans and collectors will have something new to look forward to later this summer with the release of 2011 Topps WWE trading cards. The product will include marquee stars like John Cena, the newest wrestling sensation Sin Cara and at least one autograph and an event-used Relic card in each hobby box of 24 packs.

Topps again stays consistent with its other sports division trading card releases in terms of design. Based on preliminary images released by the company, 2011 Topps WWE looks much like 2011 Topps baseball and football.

The base set will consist of 110 cards, a 50-card Topps Heritage insert set, a 25-card Electrifying Entrances set, 15 Prestigious Pairings, 10 Catchy Phrases, 20 Ringside Masterpieces, 25 Masters of the Mat and 15 Relics.

Packed one per hobby pack are parallel variations including 1/1 Reds, 1/1 Red Relics, 1/1 printing plates for both base cards and inserts and Gold parallels numbered to 50.

Relic specials will include “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Randy Orton, The Miz, Sheamus, Wade Barrett, Santino Marella, Daniel Bryan, Alberto Del Rio and others. There will be a Del Rio autographed card in the set.

Some of the NXT wrestlers will make their trading card debuts and some of the WWE’s newest personalities are featured including Brodus Clay, Ricardo Rodriguez, Alberto Del Rio and Kaitlyn.

It looks like Dwayne The Rock Johnson will be one of the star attractions. He was on the preliminary checklist and should also be a part of some of the insert sets although whether he has any autograph cards isn’t clear.

2011 Topps WWE will cost dealers a little over $30 per box and should be in stores in September.

Stone Cold Steve Austin: WWE Legend

When you say Stone Cold Steve Austin, the words ‘Austin 3:16’ come to mind, or the idea of DTA, Don’t Trust Anyone. Known as “The Most Popular Superstar in WWE History," Austin gained famed for being the rule breaker, beer drinking, screw authority figure that everyone secretly wants to be. I mean really, who doesn’t want to flip off their boss and give them the Stone Cold Stunner?

In Austin’s illustrious career, he has won 19 championships. He has also won the King of the Ring once, and the Royal Rumble on three different occasions. Austin was on top of his game when neck and back injuries forced him into early retirement in 2003. Since 2003, he has made special appearances on Raw. In 2011, he made a comeback by becoming a trainer on the WWE reality show, Tough Enough. You have the highlights of his career, but let us look at some of his back story.

Like many of the top WWE superstars, Austin started his wrestling career in the now defunct WCW. Austin had some success with WCW, but yearned for a singles career. Pair that on top of suffering an injury, and the then general manager, Eric Bischoff, had all the reason in the world to fire Austin.

Austin was then picked up by ECW, and Paul Heyman. Again, he experienced success, but when offered the title, he refused. Austin felt he was more effective as someone chasing the crown, as opposed to having the crown and being chased.

His run with the WWF, now WWE, began with the help of friends Kevin Nash and Jim Ross. He started off his career being managed by the Million Dollar Man, Ted DiBiase. That partnership dissolved and Austin found himself taunting and feuding with Bret Hart. This feud led to the beginning of the rude and crude Austin we all love.

Austin began feuding with McMahon, which led to a two year feud that produced tons of slogans, memories, and WWE moments that will go down in history. At one point, Austin sprayed McMahon along with his family and WWE superstar cronies with beer. Austin has stunned every member of the McMahon and somehow, ended up being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Stole Cold Steve Austin memorabilia and collectibles are some of the most valuable and popular. His slogans have allowed the WWE to produce some of their most revenue producing items. His collectibles are worth even more since his retirement. Whether you are a moderate WWE fan or an avid WWE fan, Austin’s memorabilia is a must for anyone. Austin 3:16 says ‘I just whooped your ass, and Austin 3:17 says ‘Buy your Austin memorabilia!’

Hunter Hearst Helmsley: Triple H Now an Exec

From a WCW start up, to now being Senior Advisor to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, and Head of WWE's talent development department, Triple H holds complete creative control over his television character's storylines, win/loss record, and championship reigns. One can say that Hunter Hearst Hemsley has played ‘The Game’ well.

Triple H came to the WWF as sophisticated chap. Triple H appeared in taped vignettes, in which he talked about how to use proper etiquette, up until his wrestling debut on the April 30, 1995 episode of WWF Wrestling Challenge

At first, Triple H was pushed heavily toward the direction of becoming a champion, but a series of unfortunate events led to that being stalled. It was not until he became a member of Degeneration X, more commonly known as DX, that he resumed his path to gold.

As a member of DX, Triple H dropped his good boy image and became a rebel. He and Shawn Michaels became known for their risqué promos—spawning the catchphrase "Suck It", while using a crotch hand motion. When Michaels was forced to temporarily retire due to real life neck injuries, Triple H assumed the leadership position of the group. Bringing in X-Pac, and the New Age Outlaws, Triple H informed the WWE Universe that his former friend, Michaels, dropped the ball and he was picking it up.

Degeneration X became one of the most succesful stables in WWE history, but all good things must eventually come to an end. Triple turned into a villain when he turned his back on his stable members. This next era is known as the McMahon-Hemsley era. This is the era where he bestows the title ‘The Game’ onto himself. In real life, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H were an item, and the WWE played off of that. Of course, in true WWE fashion, they ended the relationship with Triple publicly dumping Stephanie when they were about to renew their wedding vows on Raw.

Triple H went on to form Evolution with Randy Orton, Batista, and Ric Flair. He enjoyed success, but as always, egos get in the way and that ended. DX did come together for a short period of time, but that ended as well because of Shawn Michael’s retiring for the last time.

When you look on Ebay for items memorabilia regarding Triple H, the items are endless. The collectability of the old school DX shirts, posters, and even CDs with the theme song on it are a true wrestling fans dream. Hunter Hearst Helmsley is a rarity in the WWE. He was able to create two stables, DX and Evolution, and in turn, created much revenue for the WWE through the sale of tons of memorabilia. When you browse Triple H items on eBay, you can get a veritable tour of WWE history from a long, illustrious and sometimes controversial career.

Randy Orton Pics a Hot Commodity as Success Swells

A lot can be said for the kid Randy Orton. In his short career, he has accomplished much more than a lot of the superstars that come through for stint, but never reach their full potential. He is a third generation superstar. Like The Rock, his grandfather, father, and even uncle, were all professional wrestlers. To date, Orton is the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in WWE History. It has sent fans after a Randy Orton tattoo and others to eBay to find Randy Orton pics.

Orton’s caught the fast track to a good career when he became involved the stable, Evolution. Led by Triple H and flanked by Ric Flair and Batista, he was sure to go somewhere. Dubbing himself the Legend Killer, he let it be known that he was the future of professional wrestling. The first legend he took out was Shawn Michaels, but of course had help from Ric Flair. He went on to take out Mick Foley, as well as disrespecting the Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young. During this time, not only was he disrespecting legends, but he was also accomplishing a lot.

He won the Intercontinental Championship from Rob Van Dam, thus holding the record longest time holding the title of seven months. He lost the title, but became number one contended for the WWE Heavyweight Championship. He won, in a hard fought battle with Chris Benoit. The following night on Raw, his Evolution members threw a mock celebration for him. It ended with Orton being beat up by all three members of Evolution. It showcased Triple H’s envy and ended Orton’s run with Evolution.

After being kicked out of Evolution, Orton became a fan favorite for feuding with his former stable mates. He lost the title and took out his frustration on them. Orton received a push by becoming Raw General Manager for a week and stacking the odds against Triple H. In the end, Orton became the number one contender for World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Batista. Unfortunately for him, Triple H retained the title after a hard fought battle.

With the rivalry between Evolution over, Orton headed into singles competition. He even began an on air relationship with Stacy Keibler which led to a host of Orton pictures that are sought after by collectors, but all of this changed when he started to taunt The Undertaker. He turned into a villain again by first RKOing Keibler and then his mentor, legendary wrestler Jake Roberts. The months of taunting did not pay off. At Wrestlemania 21, he was unable to stop the dead man.

Another match occurred between the two, and The Undertaker ultimately ended the nine month long rivalry by defeating the Orton and his father. After this, Orton took up a feud with Hulk Hogan, and even flirted with his daughter. This turned out to not be successful as well, with Randy losing to Hogan at Summerslam.

There was a brief period where Orton teamed up with Edge to form the stable known as Rated RKO, but it was short lived. Then, Orton formed a stable called Legacy, and it too lasted only a short period.

Orton is now the reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion. On eBay, you can find tons of memorabilia and Orton pics, even a replica of his belt. This superstar is etching his name in stone as one of the game's brightest and most memorable stars.

Wrestler Divas: Linking Past and Present

What makes a diva? If you were to ask a musician this, he or she would name off great classical singers like Jessye Norman, Kathleen Battle, or Leontyne Price. However, the wrestler diva is a woman who can suplex you while looking sexy in a two piece bikini wrestling suit.

The word diva, in wrestling, was not used til the turn of the century. However, the WWE was home to a few divas before then. Kicking it old school, you cannot mention divas and ignore personalities like The Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young. These two women withstood the hands of time and managed to remain relevant right on into the new millennium.

Mae Young is still active in the WWE. Most recently appearing as a present to The Rock on his birthday. She’s been in numerous story lines over the past 15 years. From giving birth to a hand, to being in an affair with The World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry, and being put through a table by the Dudley Boyz ; Mae Young embodies all the characteristics of a true diva.

You cannot talk about Mae Young without mentioning her partner in crime, The Fabulous Moolah. Billed as holding the Women’s Championship for 28 years, she, unlike Mae, was actually hired by the WWF, now WWE. She wrestled in the 1980s and was quite successful. She died in 2007 and has been since inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame, alongside Young.

When you think of current day divas, names like Trish Stratus, Lita, Terri Runnels, and Chyna come to mind. At this point in time, we have more divas on the roster than any other era in professional wrestling history. With all of these divas comes a lot of attitude and "showwomanship".

Making a resounding comeback at the Elimination Chamber pay per view, Trish Stratus has been billed as perhaps the greatest Diva to ever set foot inside a WWE ring. Tough, beautiful and talented, the gorgeous competitor is stunning in front of the camera and dominates in the ring, winning a record seven Women's Championships. This rare mix of good looks and skill is summed up perfectly by one description: Sexy, smart and powerful. Indeed, Trish Stratus is the wrestling diva that sets the standards for all.

With the likes of Beth Phoenix, the Glamazon, and the dynamic duo of the Bella Twins, the wrestler divas division is only going up from this point forward.

Undertaker vs. Kane: The Story

In 1997, The Undertaker was already an established figure in the WWE, then the WWF. At this time, he and his former manager, Paul Bearer, were on the outs. Bearer announces to the WWE audience that The Undertaker has a long-lost brother. This went on for months. After months of hype and speculation, Kane debuted at Badd Blood: In Your House, costing The Undertaker the victory in the first-ever Hell in a Cell match with Shawn Michaels.

Kane wore a mask, sported long hair, and wore red and black ring attire that almost entirely covered his body. This all added to the mystique behind this ‘long lost brother.’ Kane and The Undertaker feuded with one another over the following year, during which time their history with one another was revealed and expanded upon.

Initially, The Undertaker refused to face him, saying he would not fight his own "flesh and blood". After partnering briefly, Kane betrayed his brother when he interfered in a match and cost him the WWE Championship. After the match, Kane locked The Undertaker in a casket and set it on fire, though it was later revealed that Undertaker managed to escape the casket. This provoked The Undertaker into returning to face Kane at WrestleMania XIV. Undertaker vs Kane was a huge story line.

Kane was defeated by The Undertaker after three Tombstone Piledrivers. After the match, Kane and Paul Bearer attacked The Undertaker.

The rivalry finally came to head with the Inferno match. The Undertaker defeated Kane in the Inferno match. In this match, Paul Bearer tried to help Kane by attacking The Undertaker; however, at one point in the match, as Kane was retreating backstage, Vader forced Kane back towards the ring, and The Undertaker attacked them both by jumping over the ring ropes surrounded by fire.

After this match, Bearer revealed even more of the Undertaker vs Kane Family History. Bearer was revealed to be an employee at the funeral home in Death Valley owned by The Undertaker's parents. When Kane and The Undertaker were children, Kane "accidentally" burned down the funeral home, killing their parents and hideously scarring Kane both physically and mentally. The Undertaker thought Kane had been dead for years after the fire. During an episode of Raw, Kane and Bearer ‘exhumed’ the parents' bodies and brought them to the arena.

Bearer, who survived the fire, hid Kane in a mental asylum as he grew up and went on to form an alliance with The Undertaker. After suffering mistreatment at the hands of The Undertaker, Bearer opted to bring Kane into the WWE, then WWF, in order to gain vengeance upon The Undertaker.

No clear winner of the feud was ever decided upon because the brothers stopped fighting and teamed up together to take on the impending WCW Invasion. The storyline, although entertaining, was quite unrealistic. Kane’s mask was finally taken off and it was revealed that he was not badly burnt and could actually speak. It was good while it lasted but you can only do so much before the WWE fans want something fresh and different. None the less, Undertaker vs. Kane will go down in WWE history as one of the most memorable story lines.

You are a big wrestling fan. You have secretly stashed a hoard of photos of WWE superstars and you are ecstatic because Monday Night Raw is coming to your home town. Also, they are doing a meet and greet session to which you won tickets to by listening to your local radio station.

It’s the day of the event and you are ready four hours early. You decide to head to the arena because it is right in the heart of downtown. You stop at a local restaurant, where you are meeting friends. You are sitting at your table, with your friends, eating your lunch and in walks Trish Stratus. Of course you die a little, and realize that besides you and your friends, no one else has noticed she even walked in. You have been at your table for only 15 minutes. Trish, getting the VIP treatment, already has her food and is dining, while laughing it up with some people in her entourage. You notice that to get to the restroom, you have to pass her table. For the next 10 minutes, you and your friends hatch a plan to talk to her without appearing as crazed WWE fans, even though you wanted to scream when you saw her.

The plan is devised. You are going to walk over on your phone and as you pass her table, be talking about the upcoming WWE event. As you get near her table, you act like you lose service and start moving your phone around and asking if the person on the end of the phone can hear you. This is when you accidentally notice Trish Stratus. You ask if that’s really her and she grins and says of course. You tell her that you’re a big fan and you can’t wait to see her wrestle tonight. After this, she comes over to your table, talks to you and your friends, signs a few autographs and heads for the door.

After this brush with fame, you are star struck. You’ve just updated your status to ‘just met Trish Stratus.. AHHHH!’ Then, someone comments and asks to see proof. Place palm of hand onto forehead. Amidst all the excitement, you and your friends forgot to get a picture with her.

Flash forward to after the event. You obviously took pictures during the matches, but you want a picture that’s not an action shot and that is not blurry. Look no further than eBay. If you want a picture of Trish Stratus, you can find one of her when she first entered the WWE as the manage of the tag team duo, TNA, or when she was the reigning WWE Women’s Champion. You could buy an unsigned WWE photo of her, and hope to have another chance encounter, or you could by an already signed photo of her and frame it amidst your growing collection of signed WWE memorabilia as a reminder of your visit.
