Randy Savage Autograph Will Be Sought After
Pro wrestling lost one of its most well known figures when Randy "Macho Man" Savage died of an apparent heart attack while behind the wheel of a vehicle. While sometimes overshadowed by Hulk Hogan, he will go down in history as one of wrestling's brightest stars of all-time. Passing away at the relatively young age of 58, it's clear that a Randy Savage autograph will now be on most collectors' want lists.
The Macho Man was well-liked by fans. From his wild get-ups to his skills as an everyday kind of entertainer, Savage was easy for even casual fans to identify. Autograph collecting has become a much bigger part of sports and entertainment since he was in his prime and there simply aren't as many signed Savage pictures, programs or other items in the marketplace.
Of course, once collectors realized he was gone, several tried to snap up a Savage autograph on eBay. Prices for photos were around $40. More than a dozen sold within hours after his death. Call it ghoulish to sell or buy on such a tragic day, but the fact is that supply and demand drive the market and Savage obviously won't be signing any more autographs. Collectors want a momento while sellers who may have found it tough to get $20 for a Macho Man autograph can now command twice that and more.
Most available items were purchased quickly once news of his death spread.
It won't be clear for a little while, but next to Hogan, few wrestlers had the kind of impact Macho Man had on pro wrestling in the last 30 years. For true pro wrestling fans who appreciate the all-time greats, a Randy Savage autograph will be a must.
